May 18-19: Havana, IL, Shortfield Takeoff and Landing Workshop, Illinois

Havana's beautiful 2,200' grass strip is not exactly a short field but by the time you are done with this workshop you should only need half of it. Three very experienced instructors will take you through the aerodynamics of slow flight at a Friday (5/18) evening ground school, (WINGS credit applies). Saturday (5/19) the flying begins. Expect 30 minutes of instruction and then your own practice time.

Camping is available on the field, food and campfires are complimentary. Arrive by 5:00 pm on Friday and depart by 3:00 pm on Saturday. Attendance at ground school is open to all. Attendance during Saturday flight training is limited to 15.

May 25-27: Creighton Island Fly-In Series, Georgia

Join the RAF for a fly-in series at Creighton Island Airfield in Georgia. This event will be held on the fourth weekend of every month, beginning in April 2018 and ending in September 2018.

Activities include: Hiking, exploring (most of the island is undeveloped and unchanged dating back to the civil war era), kayaking/canoeing, bird-watching, airstrip & site maintenance. Visit nearby St. Simon’s and/or Jekyll Islands: http://www.explorestsimonsisland.com/ & https://www.jekyllisland.com/

May 26-27: Miracle Mile Work Weekend, Wyoming

You are invited to take part in a work weekend at Miracle Mile airstrip to paint the windsock pole, place the windsock and work on the runway.

There is a small campsite near the airstrip for campers, or airplanes can tie down near the strip. Outdoor restroom facilities are available, but no water. Meals will be provided for Saturday and Sunday morning.

June 2: McKenzie Bridge Airport Work Party, Oregon

The Oregon Department of Aviation (ODA) has difficulty maintaining many remote State airports.  We recreational pilots need to get involved and demonstrate to the State that these airports are important to us. In customary RAF style, that means volunteer work parties are being planned; the first being at McKenzie Bridge State Airport (00S).

McKenzie Bridge Airport offers access to many fantastic recreational opportunities, including fishing, mountain biking, rafting and hiking.  Unfortunately, many pilots avoid the airport due to the condition of the airfield and facilities. The RAF is collaborating with ODA to organize a work party on Saturday, June 2 to help address this issue.  We want to demonstrate our commitment to the airfield by making it safer and more attractive for the recreational aviation community.

June 2: New Mexico Aviation Aerospace Association Pilot Bash 2018, New Mexico

RAF Director Emeritus Rol Murrow will be staffing a display table at the New Mexico Aviation Aerospace Association (NMAAA) Pilot Bash 2018 on June 2nd. This fun-filled event takes place from 5pm-8pm at the Bode Aviation Hangar at KAEG.

June 2 & 3: Carver's Cut Southern Sierra Spring Fling, California

You are invited to a spring fly-in event at Carver's Cut! The strip is on a private ranch holding completely surrounded by National Forest, gorgeous granite peaks, a stream with natural rock water slides and swimming, fishing, and hiking.  If you are requesting to come up and join us, you can stay for the duration of our event and enjoy a couple days of good food, friends, and beautiful mountain scenery.

June 9: Ryan Field Work Party, Montana

We have a list of chores that need to be done to prepare the field for summer flying.  Fly in or drive, bring your work gloves and tools and we will provide lunch.  We will work hard but have fun as well. If you fly, be sure and request the 2018 Ryan Safety briefing.  Let us know if you think you are going to make it for the work day so we make sure to have enough food on hand.  Just send an email to info@theraf.org and let us know how many in your group.

June 15 & 16: AOPA Fly-In: Missoula

Team RAF will have an outdoor aircraft display at the AOPA Missoula, Montana Fly-In, slated for June 15 & 16! Please also note that RAF is hosting a potato bake at an AOPA fly-out on June 16 & 17 at Seeley Lake Airport. We hope you will join us for both events!

June 16 & 17: AOPA Missoula Seeley Lake Fly-Out

Join the Recreational Aviation Foundation for a fly-out to Seeley Lake (23S) for a potato bake, and if you're feeling exceptionally adventurous, camp out and stick around for the Seeley Lake Aviation Foundation pancake breakfast the next morning. For $20 per person, you'll get the traditional RAF potato bake, with all the fixin's, half a sandwich from Lindey's Prime Steak House, and water. Beer available for cash purchase.

If you plan to stick around until Sunday morning, $10 will get you pancakes, eggs, sausage, coffee, and water, to help support the Seeley Lake Aviation Foundation.

June 22-24 RAF Ryan Field Weekend, Montana

This year’s RAF Ryan Field Weekend (2MT1) is scheduled for June 22-24 and will feature an “Out West” theme. This is a NO HOST FLY-IN. Driving in to the event is also an option.

We’ve contracted with popular Swan Mountain Outfitters (SMO) to provide both Friday and Saturday evening dinners, and trail rides on Saturday.
