Murrow Field on the Divide Fly-In, New Mexico

June 8-10, Murrow Field, Gavilan, New Mexico

Greetings backcountry and outdoor recreation minded pilots! The fly-in at Murrow Field on the Divide NM99 will take place over the weekend of June 8-9-10, with a possible rain date in late June or in July.

You must respond to this notice with your RSVP to get a fly-in parking slot. First come first served.

No limit on how many choose to drive in, but you must register too, so do send your RSVP.

The main event will be the hosted breakfast event on Saturday morning. We will have coffee, tea, Danish, etc. and a large batch of hot breakfast burritos will arrive about 8:45 AM.

Otherwise folks can arrive and depart anytime from late Friday afternoon through Monday morning and camp by their planes or in the woods, or stay in one of several rooms on the adjacent Gavilan Ranch.  Gavilan Ranch is a rustic guest ranch and has offered all of us the use of their swimming pool, hot tub, shower house, rest rooms, and other daytime facilities at no charge.   Those needing overnight rooms may rent them for $20 per individual per night, or $30 for couples.  There is no cleaning staff so you are honor bound to leave your room at least as nice as you find it!

Bring your own tiedowns, camping gear, shelter, guitars, and food!  We will have chairs, tables, an ancient BBQ grill, and a couple of fire rings (half barrels we can use if the weather permits).   Those staying at Gavilan Ranch must bring their own sleeping bags, pillows and/or bedding.

To attend, each pilot/driver must reply to this email indicating the desire to attend and then register online.  No drop-ins.  Fly-in details, the briefing materials, photographs, and instructions for online registering will be sent not long afterward to those who reply and get a registration number.

Caution: this is a high altitude strip - 7,500' MSL, and June is often hot - so density altitude is a big factor here.  All the airstrip edges have a berm, so tailwheel aircraft must not ground loop because of the possibility of hitting the berm.  We recently dragged the entire strip so it is much smoother now, and the hump in the middle has been removed!  More complete information and cautions will be sent in the mandatory briefing package which you will receive after we get your RSVP email.  And please – again - no drop-ins - everyone must be registered online so we can plan for tiedown space, food, etc.

We have a number of great hikes where you can explore the vistas from the rimrock peaks and see the ancient ruins of the dwellings of the Gallina people. Photography enthusiasts will enjoy shots of the wildlife and scenery.  Those with mountain bikes would likely enjoy riding off onto the adjacent Santa Fe National forest. And ten miles through the forest plus a climb you can visit the Nogales Cliff House.  Look it up on the internet!

PS: this weekend is also Lindrith Rodeo weekend, so we may be able to send folks down to that after breakfast, too, or on Sunday.  See the rodeo info at this website: https://www.facebook.com/Lindrith-Recreation-Association-863307463742317/

While the tiedown area is much larger, space is still limited, so please do reply now with your RSVP to be sure you have a spot reserved!  Please put "Murrow Field Fly-in RSVP" in the subject line so I see it quickly. Send your RSVP to rol@murrow.info and watch for an email with the briefing and instructions for online registration.
