Successful Upper Midwest Aviation Symposium in North Dakota

The RAF had a solid presence at the 2019 Upper Midwest Aviation Symposium, held March 3-5 in Bismarck, North Dakota. Four hundred people attended the event.

A Second State Liaison for Wyoming – Chris McAtee

The RAF is pleased to announce our newest State Liaison, Chris McAtee. Chris and State Liaison Lori Olson will both represent RAF in Wyoming.

Chris grew up around aviation in Wyoming. He served in the Air National Guard from 2003-2009, working on C-130 engines and propellers. He is an A&P/IA and an EAA tech counselor and currently serves as Director of Maintenance for a Part 135 operation based in central Wyoming.

Wiplinger Asks for USFS and BLM Funds for Airstrips

Chuck Wiplinger, president of Wipaire, Inc. joined RAF Chairman John McKenna in Washington, D.C. to testify before the House Subcommittee on Interior Appropriations.

Chuck packed his five-minute testimony with very persuasive comments including a bit of history on US Forest Service founder Gifford Pinchot, and a life-saving rescue flight out of the Selway. He closed with a request for $750,000 allocations from the Forest Service and the Bureau of Land Management to maintain airstrips, with continued cooperation from the RAF.

Astronaut Kent Rominger Airport Grant Project

Thanks to the generosity of RAF donors, RAF Grants are available for projects that further the RAF mission. Your continued donations enable the RAF to create, preserve, and maintain airstrips for recreational access.

How it works: The RAF depends on its state liaisons to identify and outline a need, and apply for a grant amount.

Alan Metzler Steps Away from Board

The RAF directors met in person in January, and reluctantly accepted Alan Metzler’s request to step away from the Board and his position as Secretary to devote more time to his growing family and business in Pennsylvania.

RAF Liaison Brian Rau inducted into North Dakota’s Aviation Hall of Fame

The RAF is proud to announce that North Dakota Liaison Brian Rau has been selected for induction into the state’s Aviation Hall of Fame.  The ceremony will be March 5th at the Upper Midwest Aviation Symposium in Bismarck. The social begins at 6 p.m. and the banquet begins at 7 p.m. For ticket information call 701-328-9650.

RAF Board Sets 2019 Goals

After an intense weekend planning session, the RAF Board of Directors is deeming 2019 an exciting and pivotal year for the organization.

In January of each year, the Board convenes for a face to face meeting to recap the previous year and define its areas of focus for the future. This year’s meeting took place January 25-27 at Bozeman Yellowstone International Airport (BZN).
