RAF Participates in 2018 DeLand Showcase

The DeLand Sport Aviation Showcase features vendors and an airshow, and typically sees hundreds of attendees who enjoy this regional event. This year, RAF Florida Liaison Bobby Capozzi, assisted by Ambassador Amrat Chugani, member/supporter Ariel Gleason, Ambassador Joe DeLeon, Wayne Whitley and Bobby’s wife Kim, participated during the November 1-3 event.

Visitors Enjoy Fall Fly-In at Double Circle Ranch

Eight aircraft and ten people descended into Arizona’s historic Double Circle Ranch, (AZ66) midday on Friday, November 2. Located on the Apache Sitgreaves National Forest, located 30 miles northwest of Clifton, the airstrip has been preserved through cooperative efforts of the RAF and Arizona Pilots Association.

Johnson Moves On after Five Years as RAF Director

Many know Steve Johnson as founder of SuperCub.org, and publisher of the stunning SuperCub.org photo calendar. He and his wife Laura live in a suburb of Kansas City, MO. Steve attended the RAF’s Glacier Summit in 2012 in Kalispell, MT and he joined the board after that.

Featured Airstrip

Sunrise Valley Ranch, an 11,000 acre working cattle ranch east of Prineville, OR hosts a backcountry airstrip, developed with RAF assistance. The 2,100 ft x 60 ft dirt airstrip sits in a small valley at 4,400 ft elevation, surrounded on three sides by 6,400 ft mountains.

New Hampshire RAF Camaraderie at WAD 2018

Planes coming from as far west as Oklahoma and as far south as Virginia began arriving Thursday, October 4 for this year’s Wentworth Aerodrome “WAD” fly-in. “A mixed bag from a Cessna 172, a Husky on Amphibs, J3s and SuperCubs were abundant,” said RAF New Hampshire Liaison John Meade. At one point, 43 airplanes were lined up. 

An Oregon Gem - Volunteers Protect Pacific City State Airport

The RAF recently learned the history of an Oregon gem, Pacific City State Airport (KPFC), thanks to David Inman, vice president of Friends of Pacific City State Airport.

Minnesota Fall Color Campout at Bowstring Airport

The mood at Bowstring Fall Fly-in was very upbeat despite the cold windy overcast weather,” RAF Minnesota Liaison Kurt Pennuto reports. Bowstring (9Y0) is a public use airport in the heart of Superior National Forest. Bowstring Lake is just off the west end of the runway and offers resort amenities. Camping, hiking, hunting and fishing is available throughout the region.
