Call To Action — Help Save Another Airstrip

The viability of Bowstring airport, located in northern Minnesota, is being questioned by the Itasca County commissioners. Please join RAF Minnesota Liaison Kurt Pennuto at a meeting Wednesday May 2 at 10 a.m. to show support for its continuation. The meeting will be at the Bowstring airport: 49775 County Road 192, Deer River, MN, 56636

Bowstring, (9Y0), is a 2,500 ft grass strip in a beautiful setting just east of Bowstring Lake. It offers camping, fishing, and hiking; and it’s a good starting point to explore northern Minnesota. Its closure would be an invaluable and probably permanent loss to recreational aviation.

“I expect to learn what the county is considering, as well as to seek opportunities for the RAF to partner with the county,” Kurt said. “I will explore all possibilities to keep this airstrip open and operational now and in the future,” he added.

The RAF has demonstrated that civil conversations can lead to constructive solutions for the continued operation of airstrips like Bowstring, and Kurt hopes to have as many pilots and non-pilots as possible attend this meeting to show support.

If you cannot attend in person, please write, call or email the Itasca County administrator and the County Commissioner with positive comments of support.
