Ryan Field Work Party Scheduled for June 9

Printer-friendly versionPrinter-friendly version

In the past, a dozen volunteers have turned out to prepare Ryan Field (2MT1) for another summer of safe and scenic operations. This year, the Ryan Field Work Party is scheduled Saturday, June 9 to separate it from the June 15-16 AOPA Fly-in in Missoula with Seeley Lake fly-out, and we look forward to another successful, fun turnout!

While our priorities are on tasks that improve the experience of visitors starting with June’s annual Ryan Fly-in Weekend, other work is ongoing, and volunteers who are willing to pitch in are needed.

Specific task are:
Fill gopher holes with rocks and crushed gravel;
Mow areas that tractor mower can’t reach with push mower — like camp spaces and west edge of runway;
Spray weeds with backpack sprayer;
Cut down dead pine trees that could fall onto power line;
Clear downfall on the West Glacier walking trail, buck into firewood;
Thin trees along road and cut logs for firewood;
Continue maintaining property line.

Director Emeritus Chuck Jarecki will oversee the work. Please contact him at 406-883-2248 or skywagon@centurytel.net if you have tools you are willing to bring. RAF volunteers will serve grilled sandwiches, fruit and cookies for lunch. Volunteers should bring their own beverages and if they wish, a potluck dish to share. There is potable water in the shelter.

We hope to see you at the Ryan Field Work Party on June 9, and the annual Ryan Fly-In Weekend, June 22-24. Be sure to obtain the current Ryan Safety Briefing and enjoy flying into this beautiful place close to Glacier National Park. Please register here for the Ryan Fly-In Weekend.
