RAF GRANT FUNDS MATERIALS FOR BOWMAN FIELD RESTROOM

Maine Ambassador Larry Greiner was awarded an RAF grant for a portion of the materials needed to build new restroom facilities at Bowman Field, B10 in Livermore Falls, Maine. A group of local volunteers, headed up by Bowman Field Flying Club President Nathan Hurd, will provide all the labor. The airport is privately owned by the Club, and open to the public.

The turf field is 2,200 feet long, with a seaplane base within a short walk of the airfield. “Bowman offers camping under the stars away from the bright city lights.” Grenier said. It lies alongside the Androscoggin River, a favorite with canoeists. “It’s known for great fishing, catching rainbow and brown trout. If largemouth bass is what you’re after, Androscoggin Lake is just three miles south of the airfield,” he added. There is a small convenience store within a mile of the airfield, and fuel is available at the airfield and seaplane base, making Bowman Field an ideal gateway to North Country flying.

Grenier expects completion of the restrooms in time for Bowman’s 38th annual fly-in August 24 and 25, 2024. Hosts promise attractions for all ages, with a candy drop, airplane rides, a yard sale, raffles, door prizes, STOL competition and food available for sale. For the fly-in, there will be a shuttle for visitors arriving by seaplane.

Maine is famous for fall colors, and the town of Livermore Falls celebrates the harvest season with an annual Apple Pumpkin Festival the last Saturday of September.
