NEW YORK PILOT GETS RAF SEND-OFF TO EMBRY-RIDDLE

New RAF member Sean Hamlin of Old Forge, NY is my most recent student to earn his private pilot license, on his way to becoming a professional pilot. The day he was presented with his “solo shirt”, he received notice that he had been accepted at Embry Riddle Aeronautical University in Prescott, AZ. In spite of several family and personal tragedies, he persisted through his training with me and passed his private pilot checkride the day before he left for college out west! He is successfully most of the way through his first semester, and reportedly having a great time.

While backcountry flying may not currently be at the top of his priority list, he was exposed to the fun and demands of that type of flying during our training, as I include grass field operations. Hopefully Sean will stay tuned to it through his RAF membership, even while focused on learning to fly the big stuff. He knows he’s always welcome back to sample a bit more of it with RAF colleagues and instructors in upstate New York.
