Ryan Field

Freq. 122.9

Ryan Field (2MT1) is a private airstrip owned by the RAF via the generous donation of Ben and Butchie Ryan. It is located one mile southeast of West Glacier, MT and is depicted on the Great Falls Sectional Chart. It is open to pilots with the requirement that each pilot request and receive a current safety briefing on an annual basis. Ryan Field, and the rest of the backcountry, is for recreational enjoyment, not training. Please do not practice touch and goes. When you land, stretch your legs, have a picnic, and enjoy the area! If you'd like to reserve a cabin to stay the night, even better! Scroll down to learn more.

Accommodations

Phone Service - There is cell coverage depending on the carrier (Verizon is fine; T-Mobile doesn't get much). A local phone book is in the non-food steel storage cabinet in the pilot shelter.

Walking to West Glacier - There is a one mile walking trail through the forest. Details and map are located in the pilot shelter. We highly suggest carrying bear spray and knowing how to use it when hiking.

Courtesy Car - The RAF courtesy car is available on a first-come, first-served basis. The car is not available after Sept 30 of each year. Instructions are in the vehicle log book located in the visitor sign-in mail box. We ask that you only use the car for short trips to town to get supplies etc. Please don't take the car for a full day adventure trip. That leaves everyone else walking!

Ryan Camper Cabins

The RAF has four cabins for pilots to use when staying at Ryan Field. This is hard sided camping, so bring your sleeping pad / bag and pillow. Each cabin comfortably sleeps up to four people. We ask that you please don't cook or keep food in the cabins. As with the rest of your trip to Ryan, please pack it in, pack it out. Please consider donating to the RAF to help keep the cabins open to pilots and free to use.

Ryan Cabin Inside

Below is the reservation calendar for the cabins. Each cabin has a maximum stay of three nights. After your stay at a cabin, please have everything out of your cabin by noon, so folks coming in to stay at the cabins can move their items in after noon. Please arrive to check in to your cabin before 7:00 PM Mountain Time. Unless prior arrangements are made, open cabins after 7:00 PM will be given to the next person in line. We limit parties to one cabin each; if you're traveling with others, we recommend reserving the cabins individually rather than as a group.

Cabin use is intended for RAF Supporters; reservation preference will be given to RAF Supporters. Become a supporter here.

If you reserve a cabin, please donate to the RAF. Your donations allow us to keep the cabins available for pilots and free to use.

To make a reservation, please email ryancabins@theraf.org with the dates you'd like to stay in a cabin. Your reservation will not be valid until you receive a confirmation email. The RAF reserves the right to cancel reservations at any time.

Cabins 1 & 2 are on the east side of the runway, closer to the barn and plumbed restrooms. Cabins 3 & 4 are on the west side of the runway, closer to the pilot shelter, privy, and outdoor shower. All have bear boxes close by — please keep all food and garbage bear-proof in the bear boxes.
