FEATURED AIRSTRIP: PACIFIC CITY, OR

Each month we highlight an airstrip with hopes that you will get out and enjoy these special places.

Pacific City State Airport is a paved airport in the coastal town of Pacific City, OR. The airport is managed by the State of Oregon, but is stewarded by the Friends of Pacific City State Airport, FOPCSA, a robust advocacy group. In July, RAF Oregon Ambassador Kevin Johnson organized volunteers to complete the bike shed project. FOPSCA members did the excavation and painted the bike shed structure. Headed by Johnson, volunteers built the structure in a hangar, then disassembled and loaded the components into a trailer for transport to the shed’s designated location at the airport. Beginning one Friday afternoon, Kevin, his son Eric, and other volunteers set the base pads and reassembled the shed, roofed it, finished the trim, installed the door and windows, and were done at noon on Saturday. “Robyn Holdman and the people from FOPCSA provided pizza for us, and deserve a bigh ’Thank you’” Johnson said. FOPCSA members also contributed funds to the project.

Recreational opportunities abound at the little beach town of Pacific City, including fishing at the adjacent Nestucca River, horseback riding, and beach activities. For more helpful visitor information, the Friends of Pacific City State Airport maintains a website that includes real-time weather, cameras, and airport history.
