The Fifth Annual Aviators/Pioneers of Alaska Expedition to McCarthy, AK is coming up in June. This fly-in will be 5 days of fun and history! Activities will include pancake breakfasts (and pancake flipping competitions); potluck dinners; a tour of McCarthy/Kennicott mine and historic railroad features; a ceremony with the official unveiling of the Kennicott Cemetery panels honoring the Alaskans who perished during the development of the Copper Mine; and a “McCarthy Unlocked” Tour of the buildings and artifacts in McCarthy conducted by McCarthy Museum Staff.

Join a work party of the Pioneers of Alaska installing panels publishing the biographies of those buried in the historic Kennicott Cemetery, with the cooperation of the National Park Service. We also hope to have a work party improving May Creek airstrip on Park Service land about 10 air miles to the SE on Sunday.

You won’t want to miss out on this fly-in! Please RSVP before June 15 by emailing Al Clayton. To learn more about Fireweed Airstrip (0AK8), visit the Airfield.Guide. National, state, and local Covid-19 protocol will be followed at the event.
