RAF TO HOST ARIZONA’S MARCH GRAPEVINE WEEKEND

Our friends at Arizona Pilots Association organize seasonal monthly weekend fly-ins at Grapevine, 88AZ near Roosevelt Lake. The RAF is helping to host the March 14-16 weekend, and you’re invited to camp under the dark skies of central Arizona in the beautiful Sonoran Desert within walking distance of Roosevelt Lake.

• Arrive Friday, March 14, for the traditional no-host potluck.
• Saturday dinner entrée is hosted by the RAF’s John and Tricia McKenna. Come enjoy barbecued RAF baby back spare ribs, and please bring a side dish or dessert. Stay for camaraderie around the campfire and experience the RAF Way. There are shade canopies, picnic tables, a fire ring with cooking grate, and pit toilets.

Please RSVP to Leanne – leanne@azpilots.org so we have a head count for food planning.

Grapevine is a 3,000-ft paved airstrip that’s popular with recreational flyers from the Phoenix area and central Arizona who seek a backcountry camping experience yet prefer a paved runway. RAF Arizona Liaison Mark Spencer reminds us that this wonderful recreational destination was re-opened to the public in 2012, thanks to volunteers from the Arizona Pilots Association, 99s, and the RAF, with cooperation of the US Forest Service.

For information on Grapevine and a link to its Arizona Pilots Association Safety Briefing, see the Airfield Guide.
